The Cypriot kitchen is a tasteful and exciting experience. The food have strong colors and much fresh ingredients. The food have a lot in common with the Greek kitchen but is also inspired from the Turkish kitchen which makes the Cypriot kitchen a exciting mix of the smaller Asian and Balkan food.
We recommend the Cypriot Meze (Greek for mixed) which is a orgy in food with between 15-25 dishes. There is different kinds of Meze. You can have Fish, Meat or a mixed Meze, depending on the type of restaurant. |

Cyprus is very famous for a type of Port wine with the Name Commandaria. This wine is one of the oldest known wine in the World. According to the legend the wind God Dionysos who teached the man to make wine (now we know that this technique came from the east). Today’s wine’s in Cyprus is not very famous but are growing slowly. Of course we recommend that You try some wines, and here are some examples:
Dry white Wines - Arsinoe, Aphrodite, White Lady
Semi dry White - Ballapais, Thisbe
Red wines - Afames, Keo Claret, Ino, Othello

KEO is a appreciated local Beer with a lot of awards that we really recommend. It is a kind of pilsner and is close to Danish Beer’s in taste.
You can also do like the Cypriots, take a Brandy with the food. Five Kings or V.O.S.P is the two most famous types.
Filfar – is a strong Cypriot orange liqueur that reminds of Grand Mariner. After the dinner You can have a Cyprus Coffee. This Coffee originates from Turkey and are served in small cups and are very strong. You can choose between: Sketto = no sugar, Metrio = medium sweet and Glyko = sweet. The coffe is served with a cold glass of water. |
